OIHS Students Publish a New Graphic Novel!

In art class,  9th and 10th graders learn the language of comics every year so they can tell their experiences as immigrants, and publish them in a collective graphic novel.

Thanks to the contributions of many generous friends and supporters, this year we are able to publish two books. One book is for each of the students who wrote and drew a story this year. The other book is for the general public, a handsome coffee table book of the very best student comics of the last four years. We are calling this book WE ARE OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL.

We invite you to join us at the Oakland Public Library main branch for a very special book launch on Thursday, February 23 from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Meet the students and staff, see digital stories created by the students, and buy your own copy of WE ARE OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL. All proceeds from the book go directly to the school to continue its mission of providing quality alternative public education to recently arrived immigrants.
